Update for April 2011

June 24-26 2011 at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course

To date we have 18 Turners ( the Turner of Harrison Gilbert had to back out due to technical issues - we wish his car a fast recovery! ) and the Fairthorpe Electron Minor Mk II planning on attending the 2011 Turner USA Reunion.

Remember to book your rooms - the reserved block at the COMFORT INN in about dried up, but there are a few left call PHONE # 419 886 4000 - Tell them you are with the Turner Reunion to get one of the reserved rooms. The rooms have 2 queen beds - you can also make reservations on your own - though the hotels in area tend to fill up quickly, so book a place soon.

The Turner Paddock will be located close by the showers, on the grass surface ( this is to allow those with race tents an easier time to secure them to moorings ) Again- look for the Turner HQ tent as a "landmark" and also see the attached map, the Turner paddock should be located approx by the #12 area
Friday after the racing is done, come on over to the Turner Reunion HQ tent and have a snack and drink with your Turner friends at the Turner cocktail party *Remember to bring along a bottle of wine, beer, or food item that represents the part of the country you come from - I received many emails with notes on the tasty goodies that will be brought from all over our country. This event will occur in the Turner HQ tent which is my 20ft X 20ft race tent - just look for the 10ft Turner Banner and British Racing Green Turner Mk III.
The Turner Group photo will happen, this looks to occur on Friday, and the layout of Turners will be in a semi-circle with 2 Turners ( 1 street and 1 racer ) in the center. Drivers are also encouraged to be in the picture.
In the May update -I will post the firm days and times that events will occur.
The St George Trophy Sprint race will be the site where Turner shows MG the fast way around the circuit and onto the podium! OK, time is ticking away, the historic race season is in full swing now, and with that, our special race is in sight. I have eard from several Turner racers that they have fresh power plants and their cars are fresh and ready to take on the MG gang on Mid Ohio's famous circuit. We are counting on you to make Turner fans round the world proud, and of course will race in Mr. Jack Turners memory. Special awards will be bestowed upon the Turner racers andout MG friends as follows.

The Jack Turner Cup presented to the highest placed Turner

The St.George Trophy for the overall St George Trophy Sprint race winner

My kind friend (Chris Meyers) of the MG Vintage Racers ( MGVR ) will offer a cup to the MG exemplifying the vintage spirit.

As many of you are aware, there will be a special pace honorary lap of the circuit dedicated to Mr. Jack Turner ( this is to take place under pace car control on the lap prior to the official pace lap of the St. George Trophy Sprint race. After the 1 special honorary lap - the pace car will start the pace lap to take the grid to the green flag!
As a special treat, Mr. Art Brow, past Turner 950S racer and WWII Navy veteran will be the "guest starter" of the St. George Trophy Sprint.

Presentations on Turner related topics to occur Saturday ( exact time will be announced in the May Update ) Location will be Mid Ohio's main tower

Mr. Art Brow was kind enough to re-edit to 15 minutes his own period movie of the '59 Put In Bay race, I viewed the movie and was amazed at the detail and laid back nature of late 50's motorsport ( at least off the track )

Mr. Jay Carano will provide insight into the workings Tri-City Motors with a 20 minute talk, this will be interesting, since this Ohio Turner dealer certainly played a big part in getting people in the mid-west exposed to these fantastic sport cars.

Mr. Mike Velemirov, will speak about racing one of the greatest small bore sport cars in SCCA road racing the Turner

I cannot encourage you enough to ask these gentlemen questions about their experience and role in helping further the Turner name in the USA.

The presentation is expected to be approx one to one and a half hours in length - you will be allowed to ask questions after the presentations are all completed.

Extra news

Put In Bay race reunion III

Lastly - there is a unique event just following the Turner Reunion / Mid Ohio race weekend - it is the annual Put In Bay race reunion. I have attended this fine event last year in Turner 63/592 - and had a great time. The event is a unique opportunity to see the island that hosted road racing in the late 50s and in 1963. I encourage any Turner to join me again this year. We will be staying at one of the many well turned out Bed + Breakfast cottages on the island and will bring 63/592. Why not take the island over with Turners!! See attached file for details.

Please note that the Put In Bay event is not affiliated with the Turner Reunion, I am simply making those that are interested aware of the event to enhance their late June historic car itinerary.

Please email me direct if you want a copy of the Put In Bay information package.

The below info was released in the March update- but is included one last time as a courtesy.

Racers News - Important

The St. George trophy Sprint race will most likely occur on Saturday

SVRA will allow all Turner reunion racers to have a One Time Allowance for Car Prep and Driver safety equipment as long as your gear and car meets your home race groups prep standards - be prepared to show proof that your gear and car as outfitted meets your home clubs rules. It will be up to each Turner racer to ensure their gear and car complies to a recognized race groups prep specs/standards.

I have attached the SVRA car prep standards for Turners, read this they so you are familiar with SVRA's prep standards to see where your Turner may not match up. You will not be allowed to just show up and run, if your gear and car does not fit the SVRA or your home race clubs rules ( again be ready to show proof your gear and car is approved by your home race club, VSCDA, VARAC, VARA etc )

Also see the attached SVRA official notice on HANs devices

See the SVRA website for race registration forms ( keep checking the website , as at the time, SVRA has not issued the forms ) you will need to follow SVRAs registration rules and submit all paperwork through SVRA only.

For all Street Car Turner Owners - you will need to purchase a general admission ticket for the event- this can be done at the Mid Ohio facility gate. You will be allowed to bring your Turner into the All Turner Paddock, just park it and get ready to enjoy the weekend.

All the best,

John Ruth
