I raced my BRG Turner this weekend with Steve constantly on my mind. I dedicated this race weekend to him.
I met Steve quite serendipitously one day years ago after making a wrong turn in Fort Lee, New Jersey. There in the middle of the street were three guys unloading a BRG Turner from a trailer. My question was, "What the heck is a Turner doing here in Ft. Lee?" Steve's response, "How did you know it was a Turner?" (We all know how "well-known" our cars are.)
Well, from that chance meeting came many, but not enough, years of phone calls, occasional meetings, and frequent emails. In recent years with Steve in New Jersey & me in Florida, we talked a lot, especially before and after his surgery on his ankle last year (or was it early this year?), and then again during his quest to increase traffic on his Web site for NASCAR singles.
I will miss him a lot. But, every time I walk past my Turner in my garage, and especially every time I race, I will remember, and miss him even more.
He was a wonderful, friendly guy who did a lot for Turners in the US.
