: I'm in the process of restoring the seats in my Mk1. As I'm taking the seats apart what appear to be "restored" seats, I find some construction that leaves questions. The seat back appears to have been supported by wire both vertically & horizontally (Photos available). What kind of wire? Was it just wire, or did it include springs? Was bottom construction the same?

: Seat curve is formed by heavy paperboard. Is that original?

: Any guidance would be appreciated. I'm in midst of this project & have an idea of how I want to proceed. But, would like to know what is original.

: Thank you for any help.

It seems my last attempt did not work.
My Mk 1 has a fibre-glass shell for the seat as a single construction with a cushion for the seat. From memory the back was stuffed, and the cushion was made from a 60s rubber product that disintegrated with age! The seat rubber was stuck to a piece of wood, I think again from memory it was ply but it may have been a composite board.
No reinforcing no wires no springs.
