: Boris Savinkov posted a message about a different opening scenes on the Funeral in Berlin VHS.
: I checked and he is right!
: On the 2001 Paramount UK release they cut off a part of the beginning. The (West) Berlin scenes in the beginning are deleted, it starts where the music falls quiet and you see the wall and open space with 'concrete tank crosses'. They just skipped the scenes of life in West Berlin which give a sharp contrast to the Wallzone.
: The 1986 USA VHS release is complete.
: Both VHS have white lettering where the DVD titlesequence has black lettering with a white lining.
: Actually I had never noticed. This info won't change worldpolitics but it is strange nevertheless...
: Thanks Boris!

Thanks for checking this for me. You're right, the balance (or imbalance) of world politics won't be affected, but that's a different topic altogether.
I think in this case the opening was improved on the new DVD. But in other movies, the DVD companies have tinkered with the editing and cut out important scenes and dialogue. I don't know why they do this. Maybe for considerations of running time. Maybe they just want to censor certain things that are not PC to some viewers.
