This is probably a bit late to the party ( lol ) but 2 words for you ...Slivered Almonds ! ( or any favourite treat )
Use a small piece as a reward for good behaviour when out and about , let him get used to the idea that being good will get a reward ... when it comes time to put your GCC in his cage , let him see you have a slivered almond piece in your other hand ... use the food reward as a distraction and put the bird into the cage slowly while he is figuring out how to get the almond , if he/she steps off onto the perch , immediately give him the reward and excitedly praise him while he eats it . In no time at all he will come to associate being put into his cage with being rewarded Win/Win :)
