I am no expert. I have owned a GCC for 3 weeks now hatched 6/18/12 so still a baby. I previously owned cockatiels. What I learned about my little friend, in just a few weeks, is first throw away the seed diet. Don't give him/her sunflower seeds as a diet. Use a good quality parrot pellet (I use Kaytee Exact even though some will say that is not the best).
What I do each morning, and depending on your time constraints, I take a very small plate and load it with fresh greens and vegetables (fresh corn, green beans, grape, green peppers, etc) a little bit here and there.
I put the bird on a playpen outside the cage (I have a food bowl on the playpen but i cover it with the plate. I don't let it get to it's normal food.
He/she is forced to eat what is on that plate or eat nothing at all.
What I have now, each morning is a very eager bird to get a green bean.
Hope this helps
