I don't know this, it's pure speculation, but it is possible she had the equivalent of having the wind knocked out of her. Birds breathe using the muscles of their chest, they don't have a diaphragm like we do, so if that motion got suddenly stopped it might be difficult to get it started again, resulting in a period of basically struggling to get the lungs to fill again. I've had my wind knocked out and it's a very strange sensation. My first thought was "who is making that awful sound" and then I realized it was me. One is profoundly useless until breathing catches up to normal, then all is well. I wonder if that could happen to a bird. I'm sure glad she wasn't flattened, that would have been very sad.
