Have you gotten a good look are the area or did you just get a quick peek when he was stretching and it looked red?
The feathering is thinner in the 'wingpit' and there are blood vessels very close to the skin... it's the help them cool off in flight and it can look funny if you haven't seen the area before.
But if you suspect there really may be a sore or injury there then it is important to see the vet. Plucking often starts under the wing. Some infections like giardia cause itchy skin and may make a bird start plucking, often starting under the wings.
