Today was my boyfriend/exhusband's birthday and, as usual, he HATED my gift. We've been together for 11 years, and I have never given him a gift that he liked unless it was something he picked out himself. It used to hurt my feelings bad enough when he simply put them away and never used anything I got him, but now he tells me how ridiculous my gifts are. In fact, when I gave him the gift (a certificate for a massage) last night, he said "Do you not know me at all?" It's gotten so that we argue everytime I give him a gift. I've decided there will be no more gifts between us for any reason. Period.
Why would someone act like this when someone gives them a gift? I was taught that this type of behavior is rude. He has no idea how hurtful it is for him to say those kinds of things after I have racked my brain for weeks trying to think of a gift that he'll like. If someone can explain to me why he might be acting like this, it might not hurt so much. Any ideas?
