I would do just what you did thus far, but then nothing more.

In other words, sign that "no corporal punishment" form, but then don't carry it further with the attorney or other ways of "over-reacting" to this. I put "over-reacting" in quotes because actually I find this paddling an appalling thing for a school to be doing in this day and age. However, you can't change what they already did to your child, but you have stopped any further incidents and made your preferences clear.

Then I would discuss your daughter's behavior with her and have her tone it down, so that she isn't bringing on any more troubles.

I just wouldn't do more to object to the school actions, because in the long run, this will make life harder for your daughter.

Good luck with this challenge! I am shocked this still goes on!
