DH was still working, and he didn't want to mess with all that stuff. During that time, we also had a guy do the mowing one summer. All was fine then, but.....

And DH does set the mower height up. I think part of it this year is that it was so cool this spring, the bermuda grass, which likes heat, is just now starting to grow at all. In the meantime, with all the rain and not being able to mow it, the birds that eat seeds are having grand time. I've even seen the little chipping sparrows and the house finches push over a dandelion stem to get to the seed head or even the barely opened seed fluff to eat those seeds. Wouldn't have seen that if it had been kept mowed. THe chippies also will push over one of hte grasses and then strip the seeds off by running their beaks along the stem.
