Generally, these people are hard-working and honest, life just threw them a curveball like illness in the family, a lost job, depression, mistakes, whatever the reason. Everyone in that room is equal whether they made a million dollars a year or 10K a year.
You will feel a peace the moment you retain whatever firm you wish. I will say that the law offices in lower income areas will probably be cheaper to file. You will find suburban attorneys quote a couple thousand and one in a lower income area might quote $1100 for the same case (that includes the filing fee). And the calls stop. Bankruptcy is nothing to be afraid of, it's been built into this stigmatizing ordeal that it shouldn't be. Your papers will be drawn up by a paralegal, they will run a credit report on you and you would just let them know about any debts you have that might not be listed there. Get everything in there (doctor, dental, anything not showing on your credit report) and any pending garnishment, lien on an asset or other attachment to anything you own will be gone.
