: Developed in the 90s, HoLEP is "also called holmium laser enucleation of the prostate. The procedure uses a laser to remove tissue that is blocking urine flow through the prostate. A separate instrument is then used to cut the prostate tissue into easily removable fragments."

: It is usually an outpatient procedure, but sometimes overnight. DH had this all explained to him, even though he likely needs radical prostatectomy because of his cancer.

: When he read "whole up" he said it sounded familiar to him. We had a cat once that had a peroneal urethrostomy, which is called PU, and involves removing the penis and part of the urethra. It is an awful procedure, although lifesaving.

: DH said when he read his progress note he saw UP and confused it with the cat's PU, and thought they were suggesting he get that "whole surgery"! He's having enough anxiety about losing his manly prostate without even thinking about losing that really personal body part!
