Yes, companies seem to have simply spinelessly accepted the fact

will show them delivered when they aren't actually delivered for anything from several hours to 2 days later, or possibly never. So you call and tell them tracking says your package was delivered, but you didn't get it, or tracking says it's ended up 2 states away, and they just shrug and tell you they won't do anything about that for another 2 days to 2 weeks.

As noted, meanwhile they are sitting on the customer's money.

And the showing delivery when it hasn't been delivered thing really frosts me. It's 3 long flights of stairs down and back to check for a package at my mailboxes, and you want to do it promptly when you are told delivery has been made because there has been a big problem with package thieves since the pandemic started, and often it's been left visible just inside the unlocked glass front door to the street rather than taken through the locked door and carried back to the mailboxes out of sight.

So UPS/FedEx tells me my package is there, I run the stairs to find that it actually isn't, and then I need to check back every hour or so, 3 flights down and back each time, because the truck driver probably just entered his whole truck as delivered while still en route. So I will now have no idea if/when it is actually thrown through the street door if he even bothers to do that much, and the drivers who enter packages as delivered before delivery are exactly the ones who will leave them virtually in the street when they do finally deliver.

You complain, and they tell you to change your delivery address to one of their drop-off points in a local store instead. Yeah, right, I just paid a nice big chunk of change to get delivery to my door so I could haul the stuff home from a store anyway. I don't think so.
