Apple Crisp

I got this recipe in my 7th grade Home Ec class. Apple Crisp

4 medium apples
1/2 cup flour
3/4 cup oatmeal or bread crumbs or graham cracker crumbs (original said bread or graham cracker. I changed to oatmeal when one of my kids was allergic to wheat as a young child)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup butter or margarine

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (325 if using a glass dish). Grease and 8x8" or 9x9" baking pan or 1.5 qt (1.5 liter) casserole dish.

Pare apples and slice thin. Arrange slices in greased pan.

Combine oatmeal/bread crumbs/graham cracker crumbs, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Cut in butter. Sprinkle thi mixture over the apples.

Bake for 35-45 minutes, until apples are tender. Serve warm (or cold) as is or with ice cream or whipped cream.

I frequently add a 1/2 cup or so of chopped pecans or walnuts to this, in the topping and/or mixed with the apples.

This doubles easily - just use a 9x13" pan or a 3-quart casserole. I think tripled will fit in a 3-quart casserole (9x13" pan). It will definitely fit in a 4- quart casserole.
