When Robert Jones first opened the site in 1994 he couldn’t have imagined that it would ever attract so many members and so much interest as it has generated. Sadly Robert passed away unexpectedly in 1918. he made us promise we would continue the running of the site in his name and uphold its good name this we promised to do. Colin and I don't have the expert knowledge in running the site but we will prod along as best we can to uphold its name. That is a very interesting idea Dilly, and so true in that it's the regiment one serves in, not where one comes from. As a Surrey boy, in 1966 naturally I signed up with the Surreys. But in Canterbury for training at that time you had the option of choosing to move to one of the other 3 regiments housed there in what was then the Home Counties Brigade. Johnny Blanchette was my section commander, and very fond of telling us the R. Sussex was the BEST. So along with Geoff Lee and a couple of others, I switched, and was in the last contingent to join the 1st Bn in Lemgo at the end of that year before it became the Queens. Although my mother later moved to Sussex, I still think of myself as a Surrey boy, but I'll always be a Sussex man as well.
