battalion got posted back to canterbury in 86.I went to rit maidstone the same time.I was in the sussex section under a certain colour seargeant who had been Royal Sussex Regiment then 3 Queens. The colour seargeant only had about 6 months to do until his service was finished. We went out to do a display in west sussex,i think it was a place called graffam.I was the junior member of the section.I was expecting to guard the weapons in the four tonner. The colour seargeant said he was going down for a quick pint and i could go with them.I said what about the weapons,he said dont worry they are secure in a metal box in the four tonner. We went for a quick pint returned to the four tonner ,low and behold the oc had turned up unannounced. The oc was captain"benny hill"ex rsm 1 queens.Benny said nothing that day ,we done the display and returned that night to barracks in maidstone. The next morning i was called in front of the csm "mike sparkie reardon ex 2 queens i see then why they called him sparkie he ripped into me big time .Sparkie wanted me to say that i was ordered by the colour seargeant to leave the weapons I told sparkie to wind him up it was a mutual decision by the section and not just by the colour seargeant.I was told to clear off in no uncertain terms. The colour seargeant was rtu back to 3 queens .I was told the colour seargeant lost his Lsgc,i dident know you could lose your Lsgc once you got it awarded.I wonder if anyone knew who the colour seargeant was.
