I disagree vehemently, Dave.- I will explain why.
Loyalty to the Regiment does not need "The loop of a Branch". - There are many of us in Germany and we have organised several local Reunions at the camp in Lemgo.- We have not "Lost Contact", we can do all the necessary without needing magic clubs & associations. (The official one, now being renegade, anyway !)
We have a well functioning communication net over the internet, and most, in addition, attend Lewes.
Due to modern comms, we are neither uninformed, misinformed or "Out of the Loop", as you describe it, the opposite is probably more fitting.- Most Ex-Pats are known to have, quite often, better comms because they are distant, than those at home.
Germany is still quite a religious country (Catholic & Evangelist) - Here, you can`t just leave or denounce your baptised religion, you have to do it (A) publically & officially (B) in writing.(C) to the Government.
Regimental, "Firm" or institutional Funerals in a church are not the norm here, neither are they celebrated. - The family reaction "not to do it Regimental", is quite normal.
I hope this can be of assistance.
Yours
Les
