I was home on leave one day and forgetting my surroundings was singing a well known rugby song, not full blast but quietly. "Once a man put his hand in a woodpeckers...." you know the one. My grandmother gave me her look that could freeze water saying, "Don't bring your bawdy barrack room songs here". And that's all she needed to say. It struck me as strange in some way because her brother was a professional rugby player, so rugby songs are something she must have been aware of.
I laugh now when I look back. It may not have seemed so at the time but I had a wonderful childhood in spite of the pitfalls I suffered.
