President – Mr John White Chairman Maj.(R) M J Humme MBE THE ROYAL SUSSEX REGIMENTAL ASSOCIATION Secretary Chichester and District Branch Treasurer John White Greg Fielder 01243 784454 01243 839600 Minutes of the Monthly Meeting held at the Chichester City Club Wed 12 th September 2018 The meeting opened with a minutes silence for those no longer with us. 1 Apologies: K White, M Bell, B Goddings, P Fogden, R Ulrich, B Morley, G Fielder, P Lawler, J Bailey, I Smith, J Smith. 2 Members present: T Cox, F Hill, P Cox, R Lintott, M Stenning, M Bright, T Booker, N Taggart, P Budge, S Ulrich, E Drew, B Hudson, D Tilley, A Arnell, M Humme, J White, J Walters, J Fowler. 3 Welfare: Dave Tilley stated that he had a phone call from Barry Goddings wife saying Barry has been admitted into Southampton hospital with heart problems, more details when known. John Bailey, is undergoing physio treatment at Chichester hospital. 4 Minutes: All members present received a copy of the minutes of the previous meeting.There were no matters arising. It was proposed by Roger Lintott and seconded by F Hill that they be accepted as a true record. This was duly passed. 5 Chairmans Report: Good evening everybody, The Chairman thanked everyone for turning up and bringing a prise for the raffle. I do hope that those that went to the reunion dinner in Lewes and the Priez trip had, a wonderful time. Our next main event is the Drumhead service to memory of those who served in the First World War, To be held in Priory Park on the 30th September at 11:00hrs. 6 Secretaries Report: Correspondance OUT : Minutes to all members via emails or post. Sent out Goodwood Tickets and RSA Annual Lewes tickets to those members who requested them.
Correspondance IN: From the Chairman, A newspaper article in Times, about Major General Johnson, VC, DSO and bar MC, He served with the Royal Sussex Regt in WW1. His grandson a Lt Col (Rtd) gave a presentation on His grandfather exploits to various party’s. Nigel Taggart was asked by the Chairman to contact him to to see if he was prepared to give the same presentation to the Branch members. Email from the Chairman of the QRA Chichester Branch, welcomes the RSA members, to join them at their Christmas Dinner at the City Club on Monday 3rd December. It will be a two courses, main Choice of Turkey or Gammon, dessert choice of Christmas pudding or Sherry Trifle. Names to Eddie Drew by the 26th November 2018, the cost is £19.00 pp. Email from Anthony Kemp, Lewes Branch reference Tribute unveiling ceremony by the Mayor of Lewes, In Remembrance to the men of Lewes who served their country in the Royal Sussex Regiment. Thanks to those able to attend the ceremony. Email from Janet Beveridge Thanking Nigel Taggart for lending us books from the library to help my grandson Jack, helped by me, research a Brighton College Project into the life and sadly death of Dennis Pierce, commissioned into the Royal Sussex Regiment and killed in Burma in 1944. The project has been completed and I have given Nigel a copy. 2 7 Treasurers Report: There were no reports available due to Greg Fielder was still in France. 8 Entertainment: Drumhead service in Priory Park on the 30th September, at 11:00 hrs. 9 Diary dates: Sunday 30th Sept Drumhead service in Priory Park. Sunday 11th November 2018, Remembrance Parade. Wednesday 14th November 2018, Branch Meeting 19:30hrs Monday 3rd December 2018, QRA Christmas Dinner, at City Club. Friday 7th December, Branch RSA Christmas Dinner, at Chichester College. Wednesday 12th December Branch Meeting 19:30hrs. 10 AOB The Secretary apologised that yet again we have to fill in another Data Protection form. John said that all those that went to Priez had a great time and on behalf of the Branch gave a big thanks to Greg Fielder and his wife and the Priez committee for organising a successful Priez trip. Dave Tilley stated that the PWRR Bugler, was pitch perfect. The Chairman stated that we should follow this up by writing a report for the Rousso. Dave Tilley gave a brief on the October trip to France ‘ two coaches going, one from Chichester will be a two day trip and the one going from Eastbourne will be a one Day trip. Simon Ulrich stated that in the news 3 sets of the Metal Remembrance displays have been stolen. Trevor Cox Thanked the Standard Bearers on doing a great job in Priez. There being no further business to discus the meeting closed at 2025hrs Next meeting. - Wednesday 10th October 2018, at 1930 hrs in the City Club
