Minutes of the Eastbourne Branch of The Royal Sussex Regimental Association

held at the RAFA Cub, Wish Road, Eastbourne

on Wednesday 4 July 2018

The meeting opened at 2000hrs, The exhortation and Kohima epitaph was recited by the Chairman.

Minutes of the last meeting: Were read and approved by the members, Proposed by R. Bingle and seconded by P. Anderson as a true record.


Matters Arising: The Chairman thanked everyone for the wonderful turnout at Herstmoceux on Sat 30 June. He also thanked all those who had organized or donated to the garden from its original inception through to completion.


Four Branch members attended Fire Marshal training at the RAFA Club this morning, so we are now fully compliant with the Club rules.

New Members: Nil.


Treasurers Report: The Treasurer stated that currently on the statement, there is a balance of £2,507.23, however this does not include money paid in at the last meeting which isnít shown on the statement. There is now approx. £3,500.00 in the account, but we will be paying for the Windsor trip this week.


Benevolence: The Benevolence Officer reported that Pal Vidlerís application for a stairlift has been successful and that his wife is now getting her Attendance Allowance, which has been backdated.


Eric Lockwoodís funeral is on Wed 11 July at 1300hrs at Eastbourne crematorium, the standard will be on parade alongside the PARA standard and all who knew him are urged to attend.

Correspondence: Nil.


Any other Business: The Chairman requested ideas for the venue for this yearís annual dinner at the last meeting, for discussion at this. After deliberation, the Chairman and will look at prices from the Hydro, Lansdowne, Cumberland and Langham Hotels and will bring back to the members at the next meeting.


The annual outing to Windsor on 7 Aug was confirmed and the pick up will be at North Street, Hailsham, the coach will be there at 0750 and will leave promptly at 0800, in order to be at Windsor in good time.. There is a free 23hr car park close to the pick up by the old railway bridge.


Names were confirmed for the trip to France on 30 Oct 2018.


Menus for the lunch on Oct 7 were distributed and due to the holiday season, selections are to be returned to the Chairman by the next meeting.


Initial numbers were taken for both the Goodwood Races, which is confirmed as 4 Sept and the Lewes Dinner on the 8 Sept.


The gardener at Herstmonceux wishes to donate a tree for planting at the Memorial Garden. This was unanimously agreed and the Secretary will take advice from Fiona as to what type is suitable for the ground and to fit in with her planting.

Money taken at the meeting amounted to £76.00

All were reminded that this is a voluntary donation!


There being no further business the Chairman closed the meeting at 2025hrs. The next meeting will be held on Wed 1 Aug 2018 at 2000hrs.
