Minutes of the last meeting: Were read and approved by the members, Proposed by J. Osborne and seconded by D. Cater as a true record.
Matters Arising: All members were sent the costings of a new standard with last month’s minutes. After much deliberation and kind donations from Pal Delves’ family, the Suez Vets and individuals, it was decided to purchase the Applique standard from Flagmakers at a cost of £869.26. This was passed by a majority vote.
The Chairman will order once the donations are in and the plinth paid for.
New Members: Two new members were welcomed to the Branch, Mr Arthur Samuel an ex member of the RAF Police who was proposed by Pal Freeman. Also welcomed back was Paul Gibbins, who was proposed by Peter Gibbins. Both were seconded by the Secretary.
Treasurers Report: The Treasurer stated that currently on the statement, there is a balance of £3,107.23, however this does not include the cost of the lunch which has just been paid, Therefore the true balance currently stands at £2447, 23.
Benevolence: The Benevolence Officer reported that Pal Vidler is just completing radiotherapy and therefore not feeling too good. Pal Collins and himself have arranged for his wife to get an attendance allowance from social services and a stairlift is hopefully in the pipeline.
Any other Business: The Treasurer has confirmed that the service to unveil the new Memorial Garden at Herstmonceux on 30 June will take place at 1500hrs at ‘Peter’s Grave. All please parade at 1430hrs. For those more mobile, please leave your cars in the car park by the tea chalet and walk up to the site. For those less mobile, the University has kindly agreed that they can drive up the hill and park on the right side of the road, closer to the venue. The dress is blazer, berets and medals. Also there is the possibility in the future to remember old comrades on the new fence with plaques. If this comes to fruition (it will have to be agreed by the Trustees) it will be strictly controlled by the Branch and standardized in order to keep the memorial tasteful and respectful. Car passes were distributed.
Final names were confirmed for the annual outing to Windsor on 7 Aug. The pick up will be at North Street, Hailsham, timing to be confirmed at the next meeting. There is a free 23hr car park close to the pick up by the old railway bridge.
