The recent spate of nit picking over the Memorial Gardens is becoming somewhat tiresome.
As I see it a former serving member of the Queens Regiment bought a piece of land with his own money as a memorial woodland for his fellow regimental comrades in need.
Because the money they intended to raise was all to be for the benefit of other ex Queensmen in need they did not want to be affiliated to any organisation that would involve paying a percentage of the monies raised to anything other than the initial purpose, namely veterans in need and this is another reason they do not employ any paid staff.
So in summary the Woodland Gardens (no matter what it is called) is for the benefit of all veterans in need, unlike the larger organisations it does not require a huge admin staff creaming off the donations and monies raised.
Lets stop the negativity about the garden and get behind the charity which already has great support from former Queens regiment soldiers and their families.
Better still take time to visit the woodland and see what has been achieved without the interference of the Regimental Association.
But most of all appreciate that veterans in need have another organisation that is there to help them without all the red tape associated with the larger organisations.
