Minutes of the Eastbourne Branch of The Royal Sussex Regimental Association
held at Carter Barracks, Seaside, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN22 7NL.
on Wednesday 2 May 2018
Number Present: 26

The meeting opened at 2000hrs, The exhortation and Kohima epitaph was recited by the Chairman.

Apologies: R. Newman, Peter. Gibbins, R. Vidler, T. Talman, B. Jewson, P. Mead,
L. Sandalls, J. Kisler.

Minutes of the last meeting: Were read and approved by the members, Proposed by J. Holman and seconded by P Wilmshurst as a true record.

Matters Arising: The Chairman thanked everyone that paraded for Pal Delves funeral, a good turnout to see our old comrade off in style.

He also gave details of the costings for a new standard, (a copy is attached to these minutes) and after you have fully digested, he requires a decision at the next meeting.

At the last meeting it was also raised that we should possibly be considering changing the venue of our monthly meetings. The Secretary has been to the RAFA Club and they would love to host us. If we join as Associate members, then there will be no charge for the room hire and will give everyone full access to the Club’s facilities when in town. This proposal was put to the meeting and was passed by a majority vote. The Secretary will now arrange for the next meeting.

The Chairman has also been updated on further changes required under the new Data Protection legislation. It appears that if we hold the names of wives and partners, then consent will be required from them also. It was agreed that whilst their details are nice to have, they are not essential, therefore the pragmatic solution is to delete their details from both the database and application form. This was agreed by majority vote. The Secretary collected in the Data Protection consent forms for the file.

New Members: Nil

Treasurers Report: The Treasurer stated that currently there is £2,734.23 in the account with all bills.

Benevolence: The Benevolence Officer reported that Pal Vidler is not good. He also read out a letter of thanks to the Branch from Pal Delves’ children.

Correspondence: Nil, but Pal Tippet updated the noticeboard on Von Arnim’s staff car and Rick Baker’s funeral. Further, we must be careful of disclosing personal data when publishing the minutes on the noticeboard.

Any other Business: The Treasurer has confirmed that Herstmonceux Castle have agreed that we can hold a service to commemorate the end of WW1, which will take place on Sat 30 Jun at 1500hrs, with the vicar of Herstmonceux officiating. Can all members please confirm attendance at the next meeting in order for car stickers to be produced, which will ensure entrance at the gate. The Secretary will now forward invites to all Branches.

The Chairman reminded all that the lunch is on Sun6 May at the Lansdowne Hotel 1230 for 1300hrs.

Names were confirmed for the annual outing to Windsor on 7 Aug.

We have been requested to supply 6 x bucket collectors at the annual Remembrance Concert at 1415hrs on Sun 4 Nov at Our Lady of Ransom Church in Grove Road. The President, Secretary, Treasurer, Benevolence Officer, Pals Paine, Bernhem-Parter, Bonner and Carter volunteered.

The Benevolence Officer informed the meeting that the Suez Vets are laying up their standard on 15 June at St Mary’s church in Old Town. All are invited.

Pal Freeman updated the meeting on progress on Von Arnim’s staff car. Restoration is now 95% complete and just awaiting the frame and canvas to be installed. Its first public outing will be at the Military Odyssey at the Kent County Showground at Detling over the August Bank holiday 25-27 Aug 18. Everyone is encouraged to go and visit and to support the stand.
