Minutes of the Eastbourne Branch of The Royal Sussex Regimental Association
held at Carter Barracks, Seaside, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN22 7NL.

The meeting opened at 2000hrs, The exhortation and Kohima epitaph was recited by the Chairman.

Minutes of the last meeting: Were read and approved by the members, Proposed by J. Osborne and seconded by C. Rollason as a true record.
Matters Arising: At the last meeting a new standard was discussed, the Chairman and Pal Tippett are still in discussion with potential manufacturers and will report costings at the next meeting.
New Members: One new member, Bob Jewson ex- 5 Queens, who a lot of members will already know Bob as he was a volunteer at the Redoubt Fortress. He was nominated by the Secretary and seconded by the President. Bob was welcomed to the Branch.
Treasurers Report: The Treasurer stated that currently there is £2,480.63 in the account with the Dunkirk trip paid for.
Benevolence: The Benevolence Officer sadly announced the passing of Pal Delves in the early hours of Sat 31 Mar 2018. Funeral details TBC. The Secretary will inform the Regimental Secretary and will forward an obituary for inclusion in this years Rousso.
Any other Business: The Secretary confirmed to all, that the Dunkirk trip will now take place on Tue 17th April and pick up times are 0540 at Langney Centre and proceeding to The Smugglers and Little Common.
The Treasurer has confirmed that Herstmonceux Castle have agreed that a) It can now be called the Royal Sussex Memorial Garden and that they will market it as such, in their promotional material and b) That we can hold a service to commemorate the end of WW1, which will take place on Sat 30 Jun. The Benevolence Officer confirmed that he had contacted Brig Constantine, who has agreed to unveil the Garden. The Secretary has booked a bugler and the Castle staff will ensure that the planting will be
regularly maintained. The Chairman and Treasurer are meeting the Castle management tomorrow to tie up details and as soon as these are confirmed, the Secretary will forward invites to all Branches.
An initial roll was taken for the trip to France on 30 October 2018 was made and all were reminded about completing the proforma on the bottom of the Warning Order. An Admin Order with full details will follow shortly. As usual, the invite is extended to our friends in the RSA and we would love to have them join us. The cost of this will be £45.00 per head.
The Chairman consolidated the menu selections and money for the lunch on 6 May at the Lansdowne Hotel 1230 for 1300hrs and will be £21.00 per head.
Names were confirmed for the annual outing on 7 Aug.
The Secretary raised the question of our monthly venue as it is now becoming difficult with no bar. He agreed to explore the possibility of using the RAFA Club in Wish Road and will come back to members at the next meeting.

There being no further business the Chairman closed the meeting at 2035hrs. The next meeting will be held on Wed 2 May 2018 at 2100hrs.

NB: Since the meeting, we have received details for the funeral of Roy Delves.
This will take place at 1430hrs at Holy Cross Church, Uckfield on Thursday 19th April 2018. Roy was one of longest serving members and a stalwart at all our events, could all members make a special effort to attend to see our old friend off in style.
