Minutes of the Eastbourne Branch of The Royal Sussex Regimental Association
held at Carter Barracks, Seaside, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN22 7NL.
on Wednesday 7 March 2018
Number Present: 26

The meeting opened at 2000hrs, The exhortation and Kohima epitaph was recited at the preceding AGM by the Chairman.

Apologies: R. Newman, P. Gibbins, R. Vidler, T. Talman, B. Crafter, J. Holman
R. Delves,

Minutes of the last meeting: Were read and approved by the members, Proposed by P. Wilmshurst and seconded by J. Collins as a true record.

Matters Arising: At the last meeting, a decision on a donation for the bench at the Arboretum was deferred. Subsequently the President has informed us that donations from the Branch would no longer be required as the total cost has been covered by a kind donation from an Officer.

The annual trip was discussed and agreed that the preferred date was 7 Aug. The cost of the trip is £42.00 per head, £25.00 for the boat trip and lunch and £17.00 for the coach. The Secretary will now book the coach and boat and further details at the next meeting.

Could the IT member inform those running the noticeboard and any other website that Pal Wilmshurst has had correspondence to him as the Branch Secretary and he hasn’t held that post for over six years now and websites need to ensure that information is current.

New Members: Nil.

Treasurers Report: The Treasurer stated that currently there is £2,110.03 in the account. Although the Dunkirk trip still has to come out of this total.

Benevolence: The Benevolence Officer announced that Pal Delves has been moved from the hospital to Inglewood Nursing Home and is as well as can be expected.
The Benevolence Officer has been to see Pal Vidler.
It is nice to see the Chairman back after his spell at the tender mercies of the NHS.

Correspondence: The Secretary read out two items of correspondence.
The amended Association rules have been distributed and three questions were asked:
Who are the Trustees of the War Memorial Trust? These are available and will be published in both the newsletter and the Rousso.
Who wrote the Trust Deeds and where are they? They were written by the founding Trustees and the original is held by the Regimental Secretary and the President has a copy. Unfortunately they cannot be made into an electronic version, but are available on request.
Why does the President have to be an Officer of the Regiment? This is self evident, the Association title gives a clue. All the time there are Officers of the Regiment available and willing, one of them will be President.

After resolution of these matters, no further questions were forthcoming and it was agreed that the Branch Reps at the next AGM would give approval for the amended rules.

Correspondence from the Chichester Branch regarding a trip to Priez in September was read out and the cost of this trip will be £185.00 per head. There was also a proforma for a hotel booking for those that wished to make their own way to Priez. Anyone wishing to take part, to see the Secretary for the necessary paperwork

Any other Business: The Secretary confirmed to all, that the Dunkirk trip will now take place on Tue 17th April and pick up times are 0540 at Langney Centre and proceeding to The Smugglers and Little Common.

The Treasurer has heard back from Herstmonceux regarding the work to be carried out in the form of fencing around Peter’s plot to keep out rabbits. This will cost £565.00. After the meeting an anonymous donor agreed to kindly cover this cost.
Many thanks to him!

A Warning Order for the trip to France on 30 October 2018 has been distributed and there is a return proforma on the bottom of this. Returns to the Secretary by the next meeting please. Be aware that as agreed at last year’s AGM, once the return is in you are committed and it is a personal responsibility to either pay or find a replacement in the event of cancellation. As usual, the invite is extended to our friends in the RSA and we would love to have them join us. The cost of this will be £45.00 per head.

At the preceding AGM it was agreed that six members would be removed from the list and they are the following:
William Applin

Membership will now be rescinded and they will be deleted from the membership list.

The President distributed postcards and books for members to buy, all proceeds will go to the Museum Trust.
