THE ROYAL SUSSEX REGIMENTAL ASSOCIATION
WARNING ORDER FOR BATTLEFIELD TOUR
30/31 OCTOBER 2018

GENERAL
It is the intention of the Association to conduct a battlefield tour on Tues 30 October and Wednesday 31 October 2018 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Regiment’s involvement in the final advance to victory on the Western Front.

OUTLINE
Tue 30th
In outline we are looking at booking an 0850/0920 crossing on the Channel tunnel and following a drive to the Catillon area the President will cover the action of the 2nd Battalion on 4 Nov 1918, when they stormed the Sambre Canal at Lock No 1. In this action Lt. Col. Dudley Johnson won the Regiments’ final VC of the conflict.

We will then motor to the Cambrai/Maugberge area to check in at the hotel for free time with meal at own expense.

Wed 31st Oct
Depart hotel at 1000hrs and carry out a visit to the Le Quesnoy area where the President will talk through the action of the 9th Battalion in seizing the crossings over the River Rhonelle and the high ground beyond north of Wargnies-le-Petit on the 3 November 1918. This will be followed by a visit to Bersillies where the last Royal Sussex man died in the conflict.

After lunch, the coaches will depart for the return journey and visit to a wine warehouse before the return crossing at approx 2000hrs.

TIMINGS
Will be confirmed in an Admin Order following the recce which takes place on 20 March 2018
