Minutes of the Eastbourne Branch of The Royal Sussex Regimental Association
held at Carter Barracks, Seaside, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN22 7NL.

The meeting opened at 2000hrs, The exhortation and Kohima epitaph was recited by the Chairman.

Minutes of the last meeting: Were read and approved by the members, Proposed by J.Holman and seconded by J.Osborne as a true record.
Matters Arising: Nil
New Members: Nil.
Treasurers Report: Due to the absence of the Treasurer, no report was given, but a full statement of accounts will be available to all at the next meeting.
Benevolence: The Benevolence Officer announced that Pal Delves has been moved from the hospital to Inglewood Nursing Home.
Pal Paine has a bad bout of flu and Pal Lester has injured his back, hence his absence from tonight’s meeting.
Pal Collins announced that Pal Vidler has been informed he has cancer.
Correspondence: The Secretary red out two items of correspondence.
1. A letter from the President regarding the Regimental plot at the National Arboretum and that a bench and plaque have been ordered to replace the poor trees. The cost of the bench and plaque amounted to £1,750 and RHQ is looking for contributions from Branches to cover this expense. After discussion it was decided that as we won’t have a full picture of Branch finances until the next meeting, then a decision is to be deferred until then.
2. A letter from the Chichester Branch regarding a trip to Priez in September to commemorate the end od WW1. All branches are welcome to join the coach and it will be a three day trip, 9-11 Sept. Members are requested to ‘Save the date’ whilst awaiting more details on timings and cost.
Any other Business: The Chairman reminded all, that there will be games night on Thur 8 Feb, at 2011hrs, courtesy of the Royal Signals Association. A good turnout is requested.
The Secretary confirmed to all, that the Dunkirk trip will now take place on Tue 17th April and pick up times are 0540 at Langney Centre and proceeding to The Smugglers and Little Common.
The annual outing was discussed and it was decided that we would return to Windsor for a trip up the Thames with lunch. Date will be decided at the next meeting and the Secretary will get costings.
The trip to France was discussed and it was decided that due to our busy schedule during this period, the Branch will only attend day 1, which is the Sambre canal assault.
All members have seen the new policy on Data Protection and the Secretary laid out the new requirements:
All members must be made aware of the data held on them.
Members must be made aware of the process for amending or deleting this data.
Only necessary data is to held, with all unnecessary data deleted.
In order to comply with this, the Chairman read out a list of names of members who either haven’t attended or paid subs in the last two years –
If anyone has contact with these people, please inform them of this, because if the committee hasn’t heard from them by the AGM, then membership will be rescinded and they will be deleted from the membership list.
The Chairman has booked the two lunches for next year and confirm the dates as Sun 6 May 2018 and Sun 7 Oct 2018, both at the Lansdowne Hotel. Timings at the next meeting.
The President distributed postcards and books for members to buy, all proceeds will go to the Museum Trust.

There being no further business the Chairman closed the meeting at 2035hrs. The next meeting will be held on Wed 7 March 2018 at 2000hrs.
