Minutes of the Eastbourne Branch of The Royal Sussex Regimental Association
held at Carter Barracks, Seaside, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN22 7NL.
on Wednesday 6 December 2017
Number Present: 25

The meeting opened at 2000hrs, The exhortation and Kohima epitaph was recited by the Chairman.

Apologies: R. Newman, Peter Gibbins, R. Vidler, T. Talman, J. Collins,
R. Delves, C. Freeman, C. Rhodes, D. Paine, C. Gordon-Wilson.

Minutes of the last meeting: Were read and approved by the members, Proposed by B. Tippett and seconded by C. Rollason as a true record.

Matters Arising: The Chairman reported that the total amount raised for the Poppy Appeal at Sainsbury’s was £10,786.82. He thanked everyone who volunteered their time and acknowledged that we could have made more if we had the stock, particularly the enameled pins. The Secretary read out a letter of thanks from the RBL Chairman. Pal Edwards proposed a vote of thanks to the Chairman and Secretary for their hard work during the appeal.

New Members: Nil.

Treasurers Report: The Treasurer stated that there is a balance of £1,575.78, but that is after the cheque for the final payment on the granite plinth has been paid, so the balance is still quite healthy.

Benevolence: The Benevolence Officer reported that Pal Delves is unlikely to attend any more meetings due to ill health, but wants to remain a member.

It is nice to see Pal Holman back.

He also stated that the Christmas cards for the widows are now being distributed.

Correspondence: Nil

Any other Business: The Chairman reminded all, that the Annual Dinner is on Sat 13 Jan 2018, 1900 for 1930 at the Cumberland Hotel on the seafront. Can all members please bring a raffle prize.

There will be games night on Thur 8 Feb, at 2011hrs, courtesy of the Royal Signals Association. A good turnout is requested.

The Chairman is sending out the agenda for the AGM in March 18, anyone with an item for the agenda is requested to have it to the Secretary by 15 Jan 18.

The Treasurer reported that Herstmonceux are happy for us to have a service at Peter’s grave. He stated that he would like to hold two and provisional dates were agreed as 30 June and15 Sept. The Treasurer will check these dates with the castle and get back to members.

The Secretary informed all, that the Dunkirk trip has been postponed due to closure for refurbishment of the museum. He will inform all on the list of the new date as soon as he has confirmation.

He also requested that over the Christmas break, members think about a venue for next year’s outing. Chartwell has been proposed, but the final decision rests with members. Also consider next year’s trip to France in November 18 and whether or not you want to make it one or two days. Remember this will fall during the Poppy Appeal period, so consideration has to be given to those who will be left taking the strain whilst we are away.

There being no further business the Chairman closed the meeting at 2030hrs. The next meeting will be held on Wed 7 Feb 2018 at 2000hrs.
