Minutes of the Eastbourne Branch of The Royal Sussex Regimental Association
held at Carter Barracks, Seaside, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN22 7NL.
on Wednesday 1 November 2017
Number Present: 23

The meeting opened at 2000hrs, The exhortation and Kohima epitaph was recited by the Chairman.

Apologies: R. Newman, Peter Gibbins, R. Vidler, T. Talman, J. Collins,
J. Holman, R. Delves, D. Hayward, P. Mead, C. Freeman, C. Rhodes, A. Firth.

Minutes of the last meeting: Were read and approved by the members, Proposed by R. Bingle and seconded by P. Anderson as a true record.

Matters Arising: The Chairman reported that a good night was had by those attending the RSA Quiz Night, but it would have been nice to have seen more people attending from the Branch.

New Members: Nil.

Treasurers Report: The Treasurer stated that there is a balance of £2,823.48, but that there are still cheques outstanding to be debited. If these are deducted and the raffle money added from Sunday’s lunch, then we have approx. £1,500 in the account.

Benevolence: The Benevolence Officer reported that Pal Delves is unwell and suffering with his legs and unlikely to be attending future meetings. It was however nice to see him and Rose at the lunch.

Pal Holman has been suffering from a chest infection and sent his apologies.

He also stated that he needed Christmas cards for the widows.

Correspondence: Pal Rollason presented a flyer from an organization called the Eastbourne Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club. They meet every first Sunday of the month at the Toby Carvery on Willingdon Drove at 0930 onwards for anyone interested.

The Secretary reported that Lynns Travel have a day trip to Dunkirk on Sat 3rd March. The cost is £32.50 per head. Names of those interested at the next meeting.

Any other Business: The Chairman informed all those on the Poppy rota that tea and filter coffee are free for all those manning the stand. However, if you want anything other than this such as Latte etc, you will have to pay for it. He also reminded all, that in current political climate (sexual harassment etc) that members must ask permission before putting on poppies for members of the public. The Secretary asked that all use the collection tins in numbered sequence. As a reminder the rota is attached if you’re unsure of dates.

All were reminded that the Remembrance Concert is at Our Lady of Ransom church in Grove Road on Sunday 5th November at 1430hrs. Bucket collectors were requested to be there at 1415.

The Pinwe commemoration will take place in the Pavilion Gardens on Fri 10th November at 1045hrs. The Standard will be required.

Concurrent with this is the unveiling of the statue to Joe Aukett at Langney Primary school. The Secretary took names of those wishing to attend this and will forward details.

Those attending the parade at Hampden Park on Sat 11 Nov are to form up at 1030hrs by the memorial.

Those attending the Remembrance Sunday parade in Eastbourne are to form up outside of the Arndale Centre at 1020 on Sunday 12th November.

Finally, money and menu selections for the Annual Dinner in January are required at the next meeting.

Money taken at the meeting amounted to £38.70.

There being no further business the Chairman closed the meeting at 2020hrs. The next meeting will be held on Wed 6 Dec 2017 at 2000hrs.
