Minutes of the Eastbourne Branch of The Royal Sussex Regimental Association
held at Carter Barracks, Seaside, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN22 7NL.

The meeting opened at 2000hrs, The exhortation and Kohima epitaph was recited by the Chairman.

Minutes of the last meeting: Were read and approved by the members, Proposed by D.Edwards and seconded by A. Firth as a true record.
Matters Arising: The President updated members on the Association AGM and the matter of the revision to the General Rules. After much discussion, the Chairman proposed that as a sub-committee is looking at them in detail, that we wait for their published amendments before voting as they will not be ratified until the next AGM.
New Members: One potential new member, David Woodley, ex 1st Battalion and was part of the last intake for the Royal Sussex. He was given an application form to complete.
Treasurers Report: The Treasurer stated that there is a balance of £2,731.48.48 on the last statement, however there are two cheques outstanding, which leaves a balance of £1,899.48
Benevolence: The Benevolence Officer reported that Pal Delves is unwell and suffering with his legs.
Correspondence: Two members presented a letter from the Korean Veterans Association, regarding funding for those members in need. There is a ringfenced account for the sole use of ex-Korean War Veterans. If any member knows of a veteran who needs assistance,in the first instance they must contact either SSAFA, the local Branch of the RBL or the Regimental HQ and advise them to make a claim from the fund at the RBL. Any other Business:
The Chairman reminded everyone that money is required at this meeting for the lunch at the Lansdowne Hotel on Sunday 29 October, 1230 for 1300. He also distributed menus for those not on email, for the annual dinner at the Cumberland Hotel on Sat 13 Jan 2018. The remainder will receive the menu with the minutes. Returns to the Chairman at next months meeting or December at the latest. Money required at the December meeting.
He also went over the poppy rota to fill the last gaps. The Secretary will pick up the stock from the RBL a couple of days before we start. Pal Bingle kindly offered his garage to store the stock. Members were reminded that when on duty, if they are running short and need to top up they must ring 01323 417625 before 1500hrs. Those on duty during the afternoons are to ensure that at 1730, they inform the customer information desk that they are ready for the cashier to come and collect the days tins.
The President reported that the Reserve Army Open Day went well, but could be improved if those manning the stands knew about the weapons and equipment. He also reported that all those who attended the Presentation of Colours to PWRR, had a good day, with lots of re-unions with old comrades.
Pal Bingle thanked all for the kind get well card sent to Maureen.
The Secretary gave details of the Remembrance Concert on Sunday 5 November at Our Lady of Ransom church in Grove Road. Could Pals Cater, Holman, Benham-Parter, Lester, Crafter and Firth, please be at the church at 1415 for the bucket collection.
He also reported that the PINWE ceremony will take place at the memorial in Pavilion Gardens at 1045 on Fri 10 November. Pal Bingle will officiate and the standard will be required. Concurrently there will be the unveiling of the statue at Langney Primary School, the Secretary will attend and Pal Edwards volunteered to carry the Suez Vets standard for this.
The Treasurer reported that he has contacted one William Pratt regarding the service at Hampden Park on 11 Nov, but has had no reply. If there has been no contact by the date, form up at the memorial at 1030hrs. Standard will be required.
He has also contacted Hurstmonceux regarding the service of Remembrance, but had no reply. After discussion, it was felt that this should be postponed until January due to other commitments.
A vote of thanks was proposed to those who arranged the trip to France. Everyone on trip thoroughly enjoyed the two days.
Lastly, the Chairman reminded all members that the RSA Quiz night takes place at Carter Barracks on Thurs 12 October 1930hrs for 2000.
