So, now Colonel Rod has made this issue completely understandable for all.
When the last Royal Sussex soldier shuffles off this mortal coil, The Royal Sussex Regimental Association will also go as well. He has suggested that it could be called Royal Sussex Memorial Association, I doubt, if they would be able to use the word, Royal, due to the fact, it was given as a prefix to the Sussex Regiment. Perhaps, Sussex Military Association might be a better name. As Harry states, younger members of the army would be able to join and enjoy the new Association.
In 1961 we were given a new cap badge, the Saxon crown with a sword running through the middle (sword of Damocles??) However, we were still the 1st Btn The Royal Sussex Regiment, ( if you served with Major Brady, he reminded you of that, daily) In 1966 we changed cap badge yet again but this time they took away 1st Btn The Royal Sussex Regiment and made us the 3rd Queens Regiment, can you all spot the difference??
I totally agree with Harry, that the Queens Regiment and later the PWRR served with distinction in many theatres becoming the most highly decorated regiment in the modern era.
