Well done Harry, a bit late as ever.
I am not going to get into the semantics of this subject, as there is a basic lack of understanding by some people. I believe this subject has run it's course.
All I know is, I joined The Royal Sussex Regiment and that in 1966 some 'shiny arses' came along and took my regiment away, replacing it with the Queens Regiment.
As far as I am concerned, The Royal Sussex Regimental Association is not the Queens Regimental Association, they have their own reunions which you know full well and have attended.
You also state, "There could be wives turn up who are not of the female sex" then they cannot be a wife, check with the Concise Oxford Dictionary. Quote, Wife, Married WOMAN esp. in relation to her husband. (Man)
Wish you well in you quest, it could be endless!
