I fully sympathesise - it's the most dreadful and debilitating pain, and limits everything you do - it's too much uric acid in the system and nothing to do with red wine. I had my first attack in 1981 - the day i was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel so the whole battalion fell about with laughter at the coincidence. I've been on an Allopurinol tablet (300mg a day) ever since and have never had another attack. Mind you, depends on what other drugs you are taking?
