Talk about "Send three and fourpence, we're going to to a dance", this whole thing is now getting totally out of kilter.
It all started when we agreed to give better recognition to the Royal Sussex Ladies own dining club, which they hold in the White Hart while the men have their annual dinner in the Town Hall. Dave Tilley then muddied the water by saying it should be the Royal Sussex and Queens Ladies Association but that was soon blown out the water.
The trouble is that we have now created a self-inflicted wound by arguing about who can and can't go to the Annual Lewes Dinner - a different question to the one concerning the Ladies. All members of the Royal Sussex Regimental Association are entitled to attend the dinner. The majority of these are ex-Royal Sussex but our Regulations allow other ex-servicemen who do not have their own Associations in Sussex to become members of the Royal Sussex Regimental Association, with the Queens and PWRR being given particular encouragement, especially 3rd Queens. But whether they are ex-Middlesex, ex-Royal Hampshires, ex-Royal Marines, ex-Royal Engineers or whatever, their Association loyalty is transferred to the Royal Sussex when they join our Regimental Association.
