Dave, I think you have misunderstood the texts.
The Royal Sussex Regiment stands on its own as a regiment. The Queens is a totally different regiment entirely. In 1966, The Royal Sussex Regiment was disbanded by the powers that be of that time. The Royal Sussex Regiment became The 3rd Queens Regt. (Royal Sussex) later the Royal Sussex prefix was taken away. Many of us, were totally pissed off. George Hester's mother wrote a letter of complaint to the M.O.D. on behalf of the Royal Sussex soldiers, unfortunately, falling on deaf ears.
Many of us stayed with the Queens Regt. but never forgot that we were still Royal Sussex soldiers by heart, staying that way, until we go to Valhalla.
The Queens Regt is a separate regiment to the Royal Sussex, they, therefor, have their own regimental reunions, their own history. All those that joined after 1966 joined as Queens men NOT Royal Sussex.
So, in September, its The Royal Sussex Regimental Reunion, for Royal Sussex soldiers, those whom joined the regiment. Upon saying that, we do have specials invited, those others that served with the Royal Sussex in some other capacity, still wanting to be part of our renowned Regiment.
Hope you now understand what people are saying and what we mean. Those lucky Ladies that married Royal Sussex soldiers have been recognised as the title given, quite rightly so, they deserve the title for putting up with us!!
