Nigel Taggart said that the commemoration of the life of Corporal George William Goble at Eartham on the
of July 2017 was enhanced by the attendance of our Standard Bearer,Trevor Cox and Fred Hill, Dave Tilley
and himself, all of whom did well as apprentice campanologists. And the last commemoration at
Eartham will be on Tuesday, 25
July 2017 for Sergeant Albert Colin Arnell. Details are in the minutes
of the June meeting.
Nigel spoke to Rodney Duggua, Town Clerk, about the possibility of Chichester City Council inviting
Johnson Beharry VC to attend the dedication of the memorial stone for Lt Col. W Elstob VC. It has been
decided that the dedication in Litten Gardens will be held on Remembrance Sunday 2018, which is
unfortunate as, in all probability, Johnson Beharry VC will be taking part in the Nation Service of
Remembrance at the Cenotaph at the same time. In view of this no further action will be taken on this matter.
Nigel mentioned that the Branch have purchased a copy of the book “Military Voices Past and Present.
This book was devised and published by West Sussex County Council Library Service, consists of interviews
With 90 ex-servicemen and women. The Royal Sussex Regiment is well represented with interviews of three
men from the First World War, four from the Second World War and from post 1945. John Walters also
Volunteered for this project but, unfortunately, was not called for interview. This is a fascinating historical
Record of service by men and women of Sussex. Members can borrow the book from the Branch library.
Simon Ulrich mentioned that two persons would like to join the Branch, it was agreed that they should
Present themselves at a Branch meeting.
Dave Tilley mentioned that Col. Rod Arnold would not be attending the veterans Lunch due undergoing a
