Minutes of the Eastbourne Branch of The Royal Sussex Regimental Association
held at Carter Barracks, Seaside, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN22 7NL.on Wednesday 5 July 2017

The meeting opened at 2000hrs, the exhortation and Kohima epitaph was recited by the Chairman.

Minutes of the last meeting: Were read and approved by the members, Proposed by D. Edwards and seconded by D. Cater as a true record.
Matters Arising: Tickets for Goodwood and the Lewes Dinner have been applied for.
New Members: Nil.
Treasurers Report: The Treasurer, stated that after current deductions, there is £2,556.00 in the account.
Benevolence: The Benevolence Officer was pleased to report that there are at the moment no members requiring assistance. He reminded all that David Steven funeral will take place on Friday 7th July at All Saints Church on the corner of Carlisle and Grange Road at 1500hrs. Could all members make an effort to attend to see off David in style.
Any other Business: Pal Tippett requested that like other branches, our minutes be published on the web noticeboard. The proposal was unanimously approved.
In his capacity as Standard Bearer, he requested funding for a new standard as the current one is getting frayed. The branch requested quotes be collated and a decision made at the next meeting, once costs have been scrutinized.
The Chaiman reminded all of that the re-dedication of General Murrays grave in Hastings will take place 1030hrs on Fri 14th July at St Helens old church. This is located off Elphinstone Road. Drive along the Ridge, past the Conquest Hospital towards Rye as far as the crematorium and turn right into Elphinstone Road and take first right and then first left and the church is at the end. Hastings branch are assembling at the Elphinstone Club at 1000 where parking is available. If you continue down Elphinstone Road it is further down on the left and is marked.
Pick ups for the Duxford trip were confirmed as 0630 at Waitrose, 0700 Langney footbridge and 0730 at North Street, Hailsham. Four members requested pick up at Waitrose. The Secretary will inform Lynns Travel.
An update was given regarding the placing of a statue. Langney Primary school have agreed to the statue being erected at the school and are going to initiate a project on Joe Auckett, similar to the one they did on Nelson Carter, which we will support. The Secretary will now get a quote for the sandstone plinth and it is hoped to unveil it during Remembrance week.
The Treasurer will arrange a small service with Herstmonceux to commemorate the Battles of Arras and Third Ypres. A provisional date of 16 Sept was decided.
He also reported that he has heard nothing from the Hampden Park committee regarding the Remembrance service. It was decided that the Branch will still parade and lay a wreath, even if nothing is heard from them.
Pal Freeman reported that progress on the staff car has moved on a pace and now has the engine and transmission fitted and has now been on a successful test run. Further details will follow a site visit on 5 Aug.
Money taken at the meeting amounted to £41.00.
There being no further business the Secretary closed the meeting at 2030hrs. The next meeting will be held on Wed 2 August 2017 at 2000hrs.
