: I recall in 77 when B Coy returned from Belize for a Kape Tour. The Band had a Ex R Anglian as the new Bandmaster. On our first march the played only a short piece of Sussex by the Dea before a long Soldiers of the Queen. Afterwards the Coy Comd Rod Arnold bent the BMs ear and said We are a sussex regiment and the people of Sussex expect to hear Sussex by Sea. I think the BM got his own back. On the next we marched the lemgth of Hastings seafront to Sussex by the Sea.
But John, you will also recall that when the Band came down to Salamanca in Belize, the BM refused to play Sussex-by-the-Sea because the CO had told him not to! When we had the Company Smoker and he still refused to play it, I said B Company may have other ideas on the Band's health, and they then played in three times.
