: I met a chap from Jamaka in.our local supermarket ex army as usual we talked over old times which regiment etc he was a member of the D of E regt and was telling me they had to borrow our band for a parade and where discusted as they marched off to Sussex by the Sea he was not so polite in mentioning our regimental march are there any old band or corps of drums who remember this in Malta
The D of E's were in Malta with us in 1964 so we may have lent our Band to them, but someone in the Band may know better?
Our Regimental March:' Royal Sussex Regiment' (Not Sussex-by-the-Sea) became used as the 14th/20th King's Hussars Quick March since a bout of band drunkenness in the late 18th Century. It thus became a lasting reminder that the 35th Regiment of Foot (later the Royal Sussex Regiment) covered the Band's duties whilst they were temporarily incapacitated!
It is still played as one of their marches by the now King's Royal Hussars.
