My grandfather was killed at Passchendaele - the Third Battle of Ypres - and when we took a Guard of Honour to the 50th Anniversary at Ypres in 1967, all members of the Guard had lost a relative at Passchendaele in 1917. It was very moving as Regiments weren't allowed to provide a Guard of Honour unless they had lost a 1,00 killed - such were the casualties.
