: : : can you please create an amharic keyboard?

: : Is there a real need? I asked a few people from Ethiopia. An Ethiopian keyboard will make both Amharic and Tigric languages possible, but Ethiopian literacy and computer accessibility are low. Ethiopian people that I have met can read and write Hebrew and English, but not Amharic or Tigric. These languages are widely spoken but rarely written.

It is unfortunate that you did not meet people who write or read amharic. I can assure you there are people who do:-). The whole nation of 70 000 000 uses that as an official language, though not all of them can write or read it. There are probably more people who write and read amharic than Hebrew:-). So if you create one you will be helping a lot of people. True computer penetration is not that much. But one of the reasons is people can not use them to write their language and they can not English or other popular computer languages. Therfore if you create one you would be helping in more ways than one I assure you.
I hope you will concider to make an amharic keybord. If you do here is a resource that may help you with the most popular amharic keyboard mapping. ftp://ftp.ethiopic.org/pub/sera-docs/sera-faq.txt
Also you might get the source code of the keyman amharic at ftp://ftp.ethiopic.org/pub/im/keyboards/Keyman
