Hi Youval,
Thanks for this tool. I am running XP Home SP2 and IE 6 and the boxes transfer fine to Notepad! Great tool that I might end up using on my dissertation! Much easier than windows' character map.
All the best,
Ben

: OK, thanks anyway.

: : I am sorry to say that the virtual keyboard currently works only on IE. The empty squares that you see are actual characters, that can be copied and pasted, if you have the right OS. It was tested only on my IE6.0 running on Windows XP Pro SP2.

: : The characters problem is not a "Java issue", but rather an OS limitation. The incompatibility with non IE browsers is a JavaScript problem. I am hoping to get to the root of the it sometime. There is actually a FireFox plugin intended to bridge such incompatibilities, but I have not tested it yet.

: : It may be that future upgrades to IE will handle the IPA virtual keyboard correctly as it is, without needs for further changes. I will keep an eye on the issue.

: : : Hi Yuval,

: : : First of all, thanks for the effort.

: : : When I open your IPA keyboard in Firefox 1.0pr I can see most of the characters, but nothing happens when I press the buttons. In IE, there are only empty squares on the buttons, and when I press them, I get empty squares in the text field.

: : : Could this be a java issue?

: : : Gilad.

: : : : Gilad, the IPA character set is supported by Windows Operating System (checked on XP Pro), but the support in the Internet is very limited.

: : : : I have created an IPA keyboard, but the characters it produces are not displayed correctly. However, they can copied and pasted to a Word document or Notepad (but not Open Office document).

: : : : Because of its very limited value, I have not made it accessible from main page menu. You can access it directly and bookmark it: http://keyboard.lab.co.il/ipa.htm

: : : : The source information about IPA charaters values were taken from http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0250.pdf

: : : : Yuval
