My name is Nathan Hartgraves. William Ballard Taylor was my GGGGrandfather. He is refered to in my family as Fiddler Bill. His fathers name was Andrew Jackson Taylor and his mother's name was Jenny Big Bee. She was the daughter of a Cherokee Chief named Red Bird Six Killer. Andrew Jackson Taylor was a trapper in the Smokey Mountains and was a friend of Red Bird Six Killer. When he married Jenny BigBee her father gave them some land as a wedding gift. This land is where the Bradley County Courthouse Annex Stands today. They took the land and built a trading post in order to do business with the caravans coming from Copper Hill in Polk Co. on the Old Copper Road. Up until the Civil War, Cleveland, TN was called Taylor's Place. After being there a while Jenny BigBee got tired of living around all the white people so they sold the trading post and bought land in south Bradley Co. near where Mount Carmal church is. Once the forced removal to Indian Territory started Andrew Jackson, Jenny and family made the journey on the Trail Of Tears. The only one that stayed was Fiddler Bill. Andrew Jackson Taylor was also first cousins with Zachary Taylor 12th President of The United States. Fiddler Bill had a son named John Taylor. John Had a son named Steven Ballard Taylor. Steven had a son named Leonard Taylor. Leonard had a daughter named Cheryl Sue Taylor which is my mother.
