After watching the tar and feathering scene, I'm really glad that we've progressed since colonial days (that was truly barbaric; although I'm no fan of our legal system and I'm repulsed by lethal injection, punishments in the past were truly blood-thirsty).

I never knew that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on the same day (kinda annoyed that our public school system taught me history in a most boring manner!).

And, of course, I always enjoy the fireworks I can see from my driveway. At least I'll be able to celebrate this 4th of July without the worry of having my first born in harm's way, so THAT's something I'm really grateful for.
