we celebrated with friends and family at the Jim and Kitty's mansion (our dearest friends who were my "other" parents) in Old Town Tacoma, overlooking the water. The party would go on all day w/games, potluck, sitting around in the yard and on their verandah talking and having a wonderful time with this panorama view of Commencement Bay. There would be air shows and different events and then after sunset the fireworks would start- and we'd all "ooh" and "aah" for awhile, and by the end of the show we were all just quiet, as it sank in how very lucky we were to all be together, young and old, and some very young and very old, here in the US of A.
Anyway, most all of those people are dead and gone now and that wonderful old home has sold for a cool $million$ and we're scattered to the four winds...but I think most all of us on this side of life or those who've gone on, if they do get to remember, will be thinking about the 4th of Julys at 14 North Road, Tacoma.
That's kinda spiritual, I guess.
