What do you feel the common threads of faith are?

In my studies, I've found that all the great spiritual teachers taught the same major threads of truth-

-Love above all else. Love God as you understand him. Love your neighbor as yourself. When love prevails everything else seems to fall into place.

-Be kind and practice compassion, which is another way of restating the above, I believe.

-Have a spiritual practice of some type- pray, meditate, chant, have a quiet time, reflect, be still. Have time to fill your own spiritual cup.

-Give. Be self-less. Help others. Again, a restatement of the first above.

I feel that movies like the Secret actually did harm to the New Thought movement. Whereas the law of attraction and manifesting our reality, are truth, in my opinion, using it for materialistic gain goes against the teachings of every spiritual master that ever walked the earth. Buddha renounced his princely life. Jesus was not materially wealthy. I don't see how one can have love as the forefront motivation and intention w/i and also be focusing on huge material gain for oneself. Whatever happened to manifesting and attracting more love, peace, compassion, love, and joy into one's life?

Whereas the law of attraction does work to attract material wealth, is that really the way to spend one's time while here in earth school?

Just my thoughts on this evening.
