I would go with the prescription food. If the dog has bacteria in the urine, definitely the antibiotic. Females don't usually completely obstruct like males do, but it is just as important to get her on the prescription diet. With females you may see them frequently trying to pee with small amounts of pink-tinged urine after they have been straining for a few days. Better to be safe than end up with a trip to the emergency vet (in my area, they charge double). JMHO. Hope all works out for you.
