Each day is a new song!!!!! I live in New England CT. My life is devoted to taking the music that the Lord gives me and share it with others. My challenge is getting my music recorded. This is an expence that is hard to fit into my budget. I need at least 3 or 4 songs on a demo to offer the different venues for them to hear. So they know what we sound like. If there is any one that understands what it is like to have a voice but has no one to hear it let me know. We have had gigs that were by word of mouth that have brought us through 2006 but we need to find places where we can sing and spread the good news for 2007. We have a variety of styles. We are Clasic Rock/Southern Rock/Latin Rock/Funk Rock/Jazz Rock. | Comments | I am 47 years old, have only been performing publicly, mainly via "open mike" events, for the past two years. It began as very useful therapy for the end of a (painful) marriage. Although I have played guitar over 30 years, I have never really tried to take a stab at songwriting until I started playing out. Since I have been performing, I have always been told I have a powerful voice, although I still have a hard time accepting such flattery. Lately the recent output from the songs I have written have induced considerable encouragement from fellow artists, audience members and even management of the establishments where the open mike hosts hold their gigs. I live in South Florida which is essentially a cultural desert. I have tried playing taverns, and I absolutely hate it. I like doing covers less and less and feel my own music, while not trying to be egotistical, is meant to be listened to. But I guess a lot of performing songwriters feel the same way, even the more tenured ones. So here comes my two questions. Most of the places where I would like to play require a press kit before they hire, including a CD which has been released (privately produced and released is OK). My resources cannot support a full length CD. Question #1: Would a sampler CD with just a handful of songs and minimum instrumentation (just guitar and vocals) "released" via local and internet channels suffice to get a proprietor's attention? Question #2: Is age 47 way too late to think this has any shot at all at being a new career? and Question #3....(okay I know I said there were only two) Can any one offer suggestions for performing venues (outside of coffee houses) that don't involve its patrons to consume huge amounts of alcohol or other substances? My music, I am told, defies definition. I have been told it is a combination of Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Jackson Browne, Neil Young and Victoria Williams. Does that help ? :) Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Gracias and peace. |
