: i am in the omaha area. and was wondering if there were any local shops that sell trials bikes.

: my next question is do you have to have a trials bike to do trials. i also have a wr450f and a yz250 2 stroke. would these work????

Hey Matt! you can do it on a MX bike, the novice stuff should be just tricky enough but might be ridable, on even an mx. Please note it is an entirely different skillset, and YOU and your skillset might not be able the 1st time out to do so... and the bike is NOT best suited to ride trials, but it could be done.

Best bet would to set that bike up with smallest counter shaft sprocket you could buy, and try to get the carb tuned to idle really well with the bike in gear, the clutch in, and not moving, to give yerself even a chance. Find the worn out knobby tire, if money is no object find a road-knobby tire, take all but 8lbs of air out of them tires.

More FYI: race bikes are the opposite of trials, race tune-ups means that the bike will run sloppy until well off idle (mid to top of rpm ranges running the best) which means the bike is going relatively fast when the engine is producing efficient power and torque, that the cc's can produce... where the trials bikes are like Tractors, produce max torque and HP at near idle up to say 3/4ths rpm range of that same cc sized race bike.

Plus We ride at near walking pace almost the whole time we're competing (in the sections that you get scored in) which are typically about 20-30 yards in length (called a section). there will typically be 8-10 "sections" that you 3 times each for score.

PS! Make yourself more friends if those MX bikes have the mufflers freshly packed and quiet, dont race around the camping areas! our bikes really are quiet, and can play with them in the city, in yards without being a sound nusance to even next door neighbors that you dont even like to talk to.

Hope this helps you come and give it a try really soon!

Mitch. (kansas)
